S! All

Good game! Lots of fun.
This format sure puts a different spin on the outcome I must say.
The only thing I see is that we have to come up with some way of setting plane assignments before the 30 minute pre-game TS meeting.
My apologies to NoMercy for the collisions ... 2 I think ..
See you next week.

Great game all, always fun!

BB, we do need to come up with a plane assignment when this gets to tournament. The "first come, first served" works until anyone with the pw comes along and jumps in to next available. I was thinking about this before todays match and I don't remember it being all this extra work for the "host" to read the posts and assign planes. I know right now it's a situation where we have to balance the sides, but for the tournament maybe we should have a slightly different pw each week and the teams can assign planes in a private or email format.

BTW, has it been decided if the tournament will be CW style Central vs Allied OR 4 team per match style like the last FC tournament?

No, I have not yet decided which way to go. This is one of the main remaining issues that must be resolved before we embark on a Flying Coffins tournament.

I am unsure if we have enough active pilots to run the original Flying Coffins tournament setup with 4 rotating teams per match. For this reason, I have been thinking about a two team setup like RBWar (and Cold War, for that matter). But this also means that the plane selection rules must be revised.

I have tried to do so for the Fun Days with a pre-game sign-up for team and preferred plane, but the results from the last Fun Day were not encouraging with last minute squabble about plane selections on TS in spite of the fact that many pilots did sign up well in advance and stated their preferred plane.

If anyone has comments or suggestions about this, please post in the Flying Coffins Rules thread in the Game Development section; http://ww1aces.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=65&t=302

If I don't get feedback, I'll just write the rules the way I think is best. Speak up now, or be silent forever ... ;)

:P hehe "silent forever"...I've not seen that happen in years...always a dispute about one thing or another it seems. But we can still hold out hope :)

I don't think there was a squabble really .. the sign up preferences and order were pretty clear and you Swordfish, were insisting all 7 slots be taken first, despite knowing more than 7 would show

In my case, I requested a Camel if it worked out to fly at the RAC base, and N24 if there was to be a 2nd base, and there was no reason for that to be argued or changed ..

I'll take a scout unless we have enough numbers for 2nd squad .. then N24 at 2nd base .. or N28 at second base

Scout types aren't listed in the rules .. so if Drae wants N28 .. I'll take Camel ( ? .. what scouts are available ? )
Yes, you did...but signup didnt warrant "waiting out" until "second wave" came in just so you could get your choice. All was agreed upon and discussed until you came in complaining (Muttley, please hear these words, re: your comment above)....
With a preplanned signup, one "looks" above them to see who's gotten what, then takes whats left...according to the way it was written, we should not yet have been deciding N or S...once all 7 slots are signed (if you didnt get your hopes) then you can sign for the second sector...2 weeks in a row Fly, youve caused havoc and disturbance due to your whining. Do you know how many times I had to fly the Pfalz ?...Know how many times I even missed flying because all slots were full ?....get a life and grow up.

A few have mentioned about "original format"...well honestly, I dont see how we can...we simply dont have enough dedicated pilots...we would need 4 distinct squads to "make it as it was"...aint gonna happen anymore...was tough even in the last real FC to sometimes get full teams....Sword is attempting to save the basic gist if FC, yet modify it to suit out current situation. There is a development thread that was started awhile ago, but only 4-5 contributed...???????....but the MOST vocal are those who HAVENT !....

I say we almost need to go with a "side vs side" format, and honestly, prior to the match beginning, we should not only sign for sides, but for sector as well...that will eliminate the plane choice issue. Unfortunately, there may be weeks when there may be say, a lone plane in the NW....but I cannot see any other amicable way of doing it with the numbers we have....
Only other option, would be to do as we have, but with no "area" assignments until decided. Only when all have signed their choices, will dispersion be decided.

Example 1 : Sword- N24
Bandy- N17
Fly - Sop Pup
Garrett - Spad
...etc.......
Once all teamates have reached the "7", then double ups can begin.........STILL no choice of N or S...that was a preference, but not a choice....

Example 2 : 7 type choices per sector, and during signup, you chose plane plus sector. That would bring it closer to the original methinks. Albeit there may be weeks where say, there is only one in the North....

...ultimately, its up to you Anders....its your war, its your call.....as is the booting of disruptives (a la DM)....I appreciate that youre trying to "please all", but you and I both know that it can never happen. Please the masses, if you will, set down "the law", then boot the griefers.....all have had their opportunity to speak and contribute, for many months now....

that's crap Pat, I didn't whine at all, and would have been perfectly happy taking the Camel as I signed up for .. and flexible enough that if more than 7 showed, I'd take another unclaimed plane at the other base

and I was in TS for nearly an hour and 1/2 before the game, so it's an outright lie that I "showed up" and started whining.

the week before I did not whine either, and flew the Se5 without complaint

really, I don't know why you dislike me, I never start crap with you, but you seem to regularly find crap to post or say about me

I fly RB3D for FUN with friends .. as a fellow RAC member , you are out of line knocking me regularly like this

YOU are the main reason I often chose to fly with J9 or GT .. and you've been such an absolute creep I might well quit RB3D all together .. I don't need your petty grief .. So while it may have appeared I was "waiting" to get the N24 in the north, I was more deciding whether I wanted to fly out of the same base as you or not, and almost bailed from playing at all because of your continued rudeness

Although I'm new to FC, it seems to me that part of the fun is a variety of planes must be flown, and the fact that you might be forced out of your comfort zone and into a plane you don't ordinarily fly. I would be in favor of random plane assignment, which might elimate some of these disputes. It might also result in more focus on the team and team tactics, rather than the individual pilot.

I know there are some of us who don't care what plane we get, and can't complain anyway because we always show up late. I also expect to hear something like, "I'm really good in an N28 and so it is best for the team of I get that plane."

Maybe so, but I agree with whoever said this is Sword's tourney and what he says, goes. After all, I seem to recall he spent the last game in a SPAD7 without complaint, which isn't the most popular scout pick. Following that example might be a good idea for the community. It's small enough already.
